Strange how Sexton Blake was everywhere in all formats from the turn of the century right up until the late 1960s and then simply disappeared – surely he’s due for a Moffat/Gatiss revamp in the manner of Sherlock and Dracula? I guess we’ll see.
I remember watching Laurence Payne in the TV series as a child but never warmed to him in the role. I picked up Sexton again later in life when I read some of his early adventures – many of which were set in Africa.

Speaking of Holmes, this realisation of Blake looks quite Sherlockian with his hawk nose, pipe, and occasional cravat. Still, a good tale and decent art from Passingham make this very worthy of a read.
