The notes mistakenly call this a Rick Random story.

Not only that, but this title is wrong in the system. , Comes up like this - message icon Re: Super Detective Library 095 - The Threat from Space It is actually 'The Jewell smugglers' from a Victor Canning book. The number is obscured on the cover but I don't think its 95. Maybe 99? Is there a source somewhere that lists SuperDetective library by number and content?

It's actually # 95. Cover and art by Edward Drury. Based on a story by Victor Canning. When I get a chance this afternoon, I'll change the description.

Nice fluid art – was it all by Edward Drury? Surprised this was never filmed – it’s a decent enough adventure in an exotic location with some potential eye candy and an intriguing cast of characters. The change in title was a good idea as the boat The Turkish Slave only appears in the first few chapters.

Another superb English artist I've never heard of. Stylistically Drury's art is reminiscent of the pen-and-ink illustrators of the teens and twenties, but his character designs are modern so there's no old-fashioned look to the drawings. Though the story is narrative-heavy, there are several interesting "montage" pages which move the story along without huge captions or balloons. The cliffside pursuit on our page 50 is the best example. The way most of the drawings are vignetted and don't touch the panel borders suggests they may have been cut and pasted from another format. However other Canning adaptations In SDL have been original material, so maybe that's just the way Drury drew it.
