I have a vague memory of the "Shu-Lok" shoes advertised on page 34. As I recall the tongue section of the shoe was hinged and flipped upward, opening the shoe. You stuck in your foot and snapped the tongue down into place. I think the mechanism was similar to the hinge in a snap-on tie. Does anyone have a clearer recollection?

I don't think I've ever seen a Western Story by Sam Glantzman. Short but very nice.
Cheers!

My, the ads take almost half of the space in the comic, but they are fascinating to look at. As for the Shu-Lok shoes, that mechanism was well explained (with great photos) on Craig Corvin's site.
