The lead story left a bad taste in my mouth. Alec is an abusive, rage-filled petty crook. Sweet Mary tries unsuccessfully to reform him. Alec is struck by a car while beating up Mary's brother and winds up in the hospital. He makes some vague statements that don't include a promise to reform. Then Mary apologizes to HIM for the "mess" SHE made of everything! That woman is destined for a very unhappy life.

Why is it I feel the urge to join the art instruction class on page 2
   By The Australian Panther
'Why is it I feel the urge to join the art instruction class on page 2?' Artists use subliminal lines to focus the eye, particular on covers or individual drawings. Draw a line up from the elbow and see where your eyes go. Obviously quite deliberate. Little joke by the artist? Or clever marketing?

Ah ha! You are absolutely right - I hadn't noticed that.

I am not as down on the lead as CrashRyan. Alec had rage in him, like most Kirby characters, but he was not abusive to his girl. And he was run over after a fight that her brother had started with him, not the reverse. This feels like a Kirby story; the street kid with a mighty rage in him and the gentle woman he falls in love with, for whom he becomes something better. That was the story of Kirby's life, if I can hazard a biographical guess.
