The Alabam story was drawn by Joe Kubert. |
|
I at first thought Kubert too, and you are probably right, but it must have been one of the first things he ever drew! |
|
It's Joe, all right. Born in 1926 he would have been 24 years old in 1950 when this story first appeared. By then he'd already worked professionally for a dozen years (he started out at age 12). However this is an old story. The "Alabam" story first appeared in Avon's Cow Puncher Comics #1 dated 1947.
I think Kubert is the only American comic artist whose entire artistic development can be seen on comic book pages. What an amazing career he had! If you want to see even earlier Kubert, check out the 1942 "Volton" story in Holyoke's Cat-Man #8 (v. 2 n. 13). He would have been 16. |

The title on this page says, "Jessie James," and the title is actually "Jesse James," no "i" in Jesse. |
