NotesOne of a series of 84 pamphlets from the 1850s. Each album presents caricatures and cartoons around a theme. There were 21 themes with 4 issues devoted to each theme. These weren't released in any set sequence. This issue: "Military Sketches" by Girin and Gustave Dore. Note: the pamphlets were printed on one side of the page.

Have to admit I have a hard time seeing Dore in any of that.

I agree it's hard to see Dore here. His cartoon style was very exaggerated and nothing like (in my opinion) the grand illustrative style of his best-known works.
