I enjoyed this--some thought went into making it a bit different than the usual super-hero tale. According to Wikipedia, this first issue sold 100,000 copies in 1948. I must say that Arthur Mather's art got MUCH better if you look at the other, later Captain Atom comics on this site, particularly the black-and-white ones.

Really interesting origin story of Captain Atom, given that the US was doing nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific from 1946 onwards, and this comic was published in 1948. Already tackling the issue that nuclear power could be used for good or evil. Great stuff.
