Only one to go on this elusive title. Yay! And thanks, as always, to the hard-working Titansfan. |

Curious book, this one. Went by ,e in the day. Not the kind of book I would have looked twice at.
Joe Sinnott inked by Vince Coletta? This was 1963 and both were working for Marvel and inking Jack Kirby. Coletta was a reasonable choice on
Thor - he gave it a feel of its own. Joe became one of Jack's notable inkers but his style is vastly different from Coletta's. Here Coletta simply obliterates a great deal of Joe Sinnott's work - [Something he was often guilty of] you are only left with the layouts.
Interesting Idea for a romance book but a bit late in the day to start this kind of title. |

I had wondered how Sinnott managed to handle the work load of Marvel ink jobs, pencilling for Charlton, and doing outside projects. One possible answer is his did super-simple, repetitive Charlton layouts. Lots of head-and-shoulder stuff. I'm sure he just roughed them in knowing that Colletta would finish them in his own style anyway. Sometimes if you look really hard you can see one of Sinnott's faces, usually on a middle-aged man. Colletta had his good points, but his domination of the Charlton romance line was a big part of their dreary sameness. |
|
"...a big part of their dreary sameness." Also because the stories essentially hit the same emotional beats time and again. But that was apparently what their readers were looking for, given the success of the romance line. If you're caught up in the story, it's easy to overlook the art completely -- unless it's someone like (mid-to-late) Kirby, whose art DEMANDS that you notice it. |
