The plates alone make this short and entertaining story well worth reading. Cheers, bowers

The illustrations are lovely and handsomely printed. I wonder what it was about the story, or non-story, that made the book so popular. It was first published in 1765! According to Wikipedia, although the story popularized "Goody Two Shoes" to refer to an "excessively virtuous person," the name had been around a long time. They quote a poem from 1670 in which a woman is called Goody Two Shoes "to point out [her] comparative privilege; 'Goody' (a shortening of 'Goodwife'), being the equivalent of 'Mrs.' and 'Two-shoes', implicitly comparing her to people who have no shoes."
