NotesGEM COMICS #4 is an anthology comic published by Frank Johnson Comics in February 1947 (estimated). It features the Raven by Phillip Belpin, Diana Hastings by Peter Chapman, Echo by Ron Broadley and some comedy strips by Lock and Angus Orchard. If you’re after action adventure stories in a range of settings, this one’s for you. Some pages are printed crookily, which happens a bit with Frank Johnson, but paper was scarce at the time so there was no second print to improve the presentation.

One thing that made me smile is the way the title of the Echo story is presented (page 27) - it's a clever little idea that also emphasises how the character's power works. Sometimes it's the little things...

Phillip Belpin was certainly influenced by the US 'adventure' artists - which would have been available in Newspaper supplements. He puts me in mind of PHANTOM artist Ray Moore, but he is better than Moore.

Love reading adventures on characters I've never known about. Thanks Dan.
