FLYNN OF THE FBI 23 by Arthur Mather was published by Atlas Publications in August 1954 (estimated). This series originally started out reprinting the US ‘Secret Agent X-9’ newspaper strips (from the period it was being produced by Charles Flanders) renamed and re-lettered to this new title. From its third issue, all-new stores by Arthur Mather were published. The reasons for the retitling and the switch to original Australian stories are lost to time. This issue come about half-way through its run. The back cover has had the order coupon for World Famous Comic Annual 4 torn off, resulting in the loss of some of the art of the story, although by chance the word balloons are still intact, completing the story without the art. For more on the story behind the naming of this comic and the unusual step of creating new Australian stories rather than continuing reprinting American newspaper strips, see Kevin Fitzpatrick's detective work at his Comics Down Under blog at https:comicsdownunder.blogspot.com/2006/10/flynn-of-fbi-case-closed.html. Atlas returned to reprinting Secret Agent X9 in a separate comic.
