NotesDan tells - "Smoky Dawson was a popular cowboy troubadour decades ago in Australia. He was a real person (with a fake name) and who participated in any number of entertainment events. Smoky was so popular that he got his own radio program (a bit of western adventure with a song!) and from that they made a comic. in this regard he was competing with the Phantom Ranger (who had a comic that had a radio show spun off from it)."

The Adventures of Smoky Dawson was published by Colour Comics, and issue 7 was published in December 1957 (estimated). This story is drawn by Andrea Bresciani, an Italian-born cartoonist who emigrated to Australia in 1950. Bresciani was working as a cartoonist in Italy before emigrating, and continued in that profession in his new home. He is best known for the non-fiction comic strip Frontiers in Science which he drew for 10 years, during which time it grew from being published in one Australian newspaper to being syndicated to over 200 newspapers internationally. After this, Bresciani became involved in animated movies, working as an animator, layout artist and art director for Hanna-Barbera and Marvel Productions, working in a number of countries, including Spain, Germany, the Philippines and Australia. In his retirement, he turned his hand to sculpting horses.

Hi wow never knew there was a Smoky Dawson comic! He also appeared regularly as a guest on the childrens' morning tv show The Super Flying Fun Show hosted by Marylin Mayo on Sydney Australia's Channel 9. In his declining years he also endorsed The Smoky Dawson Recliner for assisted elderly or disabled seating which proved to be a very popular item.

This is only 12 pages. Is it the whole comic?

@The Australian Panther - this is exactly half of the comic. The other 12 pages are a 9.5 page Smoky Dawson story and 2.5 pages of ads. The short version is I'm indexing comics held in a library (to contribute to the the GCD and AusReprints), scanning some to upload here. I hadn't planned to scan this comic, but the resemblance of the villain, the Bat, to a British comic character of the same name, so I scanned it quickly and sent to Paw Broon for his interest (being an Australian/British crossover of a kind). He decided to upload it, but I hadn't done any reading on the production of the comic. I quickly looked up the artist and posted info on him after it was available here. I can and may upload the whole comic after I learn more to comment usefully on its context .
