ACTION COMICS 35 (series 2) features two Lone Avenger stories by Les Such, and was published by Action Comics in(estimated) September 1956. The Lone Avenger was created by the odious Len Lawson*, but he was not permitted to continue producing comics while imprisoned, and it was arranged that Les Such would take over the character, Confusingly, Action Comics is a separate title to Action Comic, both from the same publisher (more info below). * I describe Lawson as odious without feeling overly judgmental. A biography of him has been published under the title ‘Monster – Leonard Lawson: murderer, rapist, comic book artist’. There is more information about this book at the bottom of the page

Action Comic and Action Comics - what's the story? Action Comic #1 (called Action Comics on the cover) was published in 1946, which ran for 68 issues until it was wound up in 1952. It was sometimes titled as Action Comics on the cover, but it was generally Action Comic. It had a sibling publication called Action Comics, starting in 1951 and running until 1954 (numbered from #10). It was restarted with a new run of numbers (starting with #20) pretty much immediately, finally ending in 1957. Along the way, the publishing company was renamed as Action Comics! It's not confusing at all.

Les Such is an Australian cartoonist who is best known for his work, because very little is known about his life. There's quite a large amount at Design + Art Australia Online (at https:www.daao.org.au/bio/les-such/biography/), but it focusses on his work and style. After his predecessor on the character, Len Lawson, was jailed and refused permission to continue to produce comics from behind bars, Les Such took over the character for the rest of its run. Such had already had a wide and varied before taking up producing the very popular Lone Avenger strip.

Hello Downunder Dan,
Like you, I can remember The Lone Avenger series also The Hooded Rider that were drawn by Len Lawson. They were great comics to read as a kid.(i was born in 1939) If you have any early issues that were released written by Len Lawson,I would like to see more of them.In that era there was nothing published that could offend any one today.
