PHANTOM RANGER 41 by Paul Chapman was published Frew Publications in February 1953 (estimated). The Phantom Ranger is the latest in a dynastic line of heroes, associated with the Navajo Nation. Mostly, he is up against white opponents, but this issue he’s up against Black Arrow, a Comanche. There is more information about this book at the bottom of the page

What connection did "Phantom Ranger" have with The Navajo Nation? I worked for them for 15 years, spending a lot of time in Window Rock, and other places on The Res.

The Phantom Ranger was the first original character created for Frew Publications. He's effectively a cross between the Phantom and the Lone Ranger. From Phantom Ranger #2, here is the legend: "Many years ago a boy was rescued by the Navajo Indians and grew to manhood in their midst where he became the masked champion of Justice. 200 years later across the badlands of Nebraska and over the rolling pampas of New Mexico a masked man rode again. And now again today men are asking 'Who is this mysterious masked rider... Is he the PHANTOM RANGER?'" The ranger is a dynastic hero, the role passed from father to son. He holds a special place among the Navajo, who know him as Kina, the Deathless One. Modern comics hint that there is some link between the Phantom and the Phantom Ranger (or at least the two lines of heroes), though exactly what that is hasn't been explained.
