On our page 16 is an interesting artifact: a list of "Acceptable Comics" prepared by "the St Paul Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and the Catholic Youth Council." Mostly what you'd expect, but my eye was caught by a listing for a comic titled "Gunfighter." Apparently this was the EC pre-Trend title that ran from 1948-1950 (10 issues --#5-#14). I haven't seen the insides of any "Gunfighter" issue, so I don't know what the stories were like. Most of the covers, though, were about shootin' and fightin', with a couple featuring damsels in distress flashing boobs and bare legs. Not the sort of thing I'd expect the Catholic Youth Council to approve. On the other hand, "Gunfighter" issues 12 and 13 (Nov 1949-Apr 1950) lightened up considerably...#12 even shows the entire cast smiling. Could these have been the issues that the Council censors found acceptable? "Topix" has a Mar 27, 1950, indicia date. We know that newsstand comics postdated their issues by a couple of months. It's possible that "Gunfighter" 12 and 13 were tamer issues than their predecessors, and that these were the issues the censors reviewed. I'm sure they didn't see #14, whose cover featured a classic bosomy, leggy babe tied up beside a keg of dynamite with a burning fuse.
