It was originally scheduled to be printed in January of 1950 (hence the 1950 copyright), but Carter Oil wanted to get this book out in time for Christmas and talked the publisher into printing it in early December, 1949.
• Later variant contains back cover note, "Presented by R. I. Department of Agriculture and Conservation Division of Forests".
