I'm baffled by some of the thought balloons in these comics. Most of them are standard issue, the words of a character's thoughts enclosed in a cloud shape. She: "If that man speaks to me I shall have to leave." He: "The English girl looks scared." But many times the balloon ends with a description. She: "If that man speaks to me I shall have to leave, June determines." He: "The English girl looks scared, muses the stranger." Whose crazy idea was this? Both the dialogue and the artwork make it clear that June is determined and the stranger is musing. Why add the descriptor? Moreover the style is inconsistent within a given issue. Some thoughts are lettered normally, some are "enhanced." Very odd, he concluded.
