There's a lot of fun to be had in these Ibis stories, but the gimmick of losing the Ibistick gets old fast. Ibis should chain the thing to his wrist.

The problem here is that the Ibistick can do absolutely anything (except kill Ibis). 99% of the time Ibis doesn't have to go to the elaborate lengths he employs to solve problems. Threatened by a crook? Just say, "Put this man in prison!" and end the stand-off. Princess Taia kidnapped? Say, "Bring Taia safely to me!" Hostage situation ended. Evil mastermind holed up in an impregnable fortress? "Have mastermind surrender!"

Even in a major case like a city being bombed, instead of conjuring up a protective dome Ibis could say, "Ibistick, end this war fairly and without harm!" Bingo--no World War II.
