Steranko was an expert on the History of Comics. Wrote 2 volumes of a history of the Golden Age, so its not impossible that he knew of that page and swiped it. Well spotted!

[Mr. Magnificent]

I'd forgotten about his History of Comics. I wanted one desperately when it came out when I was a kid, but $10 was a lot of money then. I would love to see a Steranko Dynamite. After reading most of the first run of Dynamite, I suspect they may have had an influence on Steranko. There's a similarity in the close-ups and the cuts, and the noir style camera angles. Morisi also used the device of a single caption over a sequence of frames.

What it doesn't say, is that apparently he offered to buy the rights to the original Daredevil, but was turned down, so Thunderbolts costume deliberately references the original Daredevil. He also held on to the rights to Thunderbolt, which is why DC rarely used the character. I can only think of one story DC did which was a one-off team-up of most of the Charlton Characters in a Justice League Digest book.
Of course Alan Moore used the template of Thunderbolt for Ozymandias.
The current Dynamite version of Thunderbolt is not bad, but far removed from the original.
