Comics Where They Killed The Hero Off & Continued?
« on: June 21, 2020, 12:58:39 PM »

Hi all, hope everyone is well during these times?

I was wondering which comics do you know about where the hero was killed off and they continued the story with another hero?

I think the Comet was a victim of this and a character from Young Robin Hood if my memory serves.

The "Mystery Men" parody of Superhero characters does something of this nature when the Mystery Men accidently kill their hero then carry on in his place.

I haven't been reading much modern comics but from what I've heard Captain America gets killed off and another hero takes up the shield. I'm pretty sure Cap isn't really dead though, just taking a long time to recover from his injuries.
Then there's the Death of Superman, who later comes back from the grave. There were a string of minor meta humans who tried to fill the gap.

I hadn't heard of the Death of Spider-Man, and I'm intrigued now, is there a way to read it online or should I look for a place to order the physical comic book from?

Well, it was actually death of Superman. They're not pd books, I'm afraid, but many stores will have them as back issues.

Green Arrow also comes to my mind. Oliver Queen got killed, and his son Connor Hawke took the mantle from then on. I don't think Connor still exists past the 2011 reboot, though.

Erm... wasn't also Green Lantern/Hal Jordan killed and replaced by Kyle Rayner or didn't it happen in the same series? Emerald Twilight has just been published in France and I didn't read it.

Same series. Emerald Twilight ran through Green Lantern #48-50 and Kyle became Green Lantern in #51.

There really haven't been many heroes from the big two that haven't been killed off and replaced.
Both Barry Allen Flash and Supergirl were killled off in the original Crisis. There have been several Flashes since, including a resurrected Barry Allen, now also rebooted as a much younger man. Several Supergirls, including one that was teamed with Lex Luthor. Several Superboys, Henry Pym even replaced himself when he had a brain snap and married the Wasp when he was YellowJacket.Wolverine? Iron Fist? Batman? [the last several times]

X-23 became Wolverine in the All-New Wolverine series, and it was good. Way better than the Wolverines minis where the authors gathered every clawed character from Marvel to decide which one was the best suited to take the mantle. Easily some of the worst comics I read in the past decade.

I'm told that the movie featuring Wolverine and X-23 is one of the best Superhero movies, haven't seen it yet, but I will get around to it.
