An interesting trend developing in Japan is the conflation of J-Pop and Manga with the stars of the former (eg E-Girls) starring as heroes in manga adventures. Rather cleverly, the manga are not dated - only numbered in sequence - so they can be carted around to concerts as well as staying on the shelves forever.

Although there have been occasional similar products in the west, isn't it odd that the same thing hasn't happened here? I remember enjoying a Beatles comic strip back in the sixties but I'm prepared to bet that today an ongoing series with someone like Rihanna in the lead would sell in bundles.

I'm afraid I've no idea who the current big hitparade heroes are - I only know Rihanna because she was in the excellent Valerian movie - but I would definitely buy a Dave Clark Five series

Back in the '90s Harvey put out a bunch of books based on New Kids On The Block (I read one, it's painful), but they did put out some comic Tour Books which I believe were sold at concerts (for $10 if I remember the ad correctly).

That being said I don't think there was a large overlap between comic fans (mostly male) and New Kids On The Block fans (teenage girls), unlike Japan where comics are a big deal to all demographics, so I imagine there is automatically a large overlap of J-Pop & manga fans.

There have been comics based on Kiss, but I believe the band has a built-in persona/mythology that can be used for stories whereas most musicians are just people so the stories would have to be something like "wacky things that happened to the band" which could be fun, but are also generic and could fit any musician. Just change the name(s) and the story remains the same.
