I've been a big fan of the original "Sherlock Holmes" stories by Arthur Conan Doyle since reading them as a pre-teen in the 1950s, as well as comic book portrayals of those stories from the 1940s and 1950s, as well as the films of his stories and new stories made in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, and of the related British TV series in the 1950s.  I also love the 1940s and early 1950s cartoony comic book comedy parodies in US comic books.  I would like to find out if there are any which I have missed.  The following are the cartoony style comic book "Sherlock Holmes" parody series of which I have copies of all the issues:

Holmes has turned up in a lot of different places in comics, incl. Planetary; the very good Victorian Undead series and he meets Batman in the Detective Comics Anniversary issue #572.
He also turns up in an issue of Martin Mystere.

Not only Holmes, but there are comics on Mycroft, his brother and the kids gang he used, the irregulars.
In books, there are Series for Mycroft, Mrs Hudson, The irregulars,Moriarty and even Lestrade.
I'm pretty sure I remember a Mad Parody, back in the good old days.
What do we have on CB+?
No less than 49 Radio Episode with Rathbone and Bruce.
18 episodes in which  John Gielgud played Holmes for BBC radio in the 1950s, with Ralph Richardson as Watson.
34 Episodes starring Conway and Bruce.
26 Episodes featuring Stanley & Shirley
Television 29 Episodes featuring starring Ronald Howard (son of Leslie Howard) as Holmes and Howard Marion Crawford as Watson - They are not bad, I have some on CD.

The Ron Howard 1950s British TV series was excellent!  I've watched all of the episodes over and over through the years, as I have the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce film series.  The Gielgud/Richardson and Rathbone/Bruce radio shows are excellent as well.  ALL of these actors are among my very favourites.

Not sure if there is a version with English subtitles though. Sadly, the actor who played Dr Watson died in an accident shortly after the first series so there was no series 2.

I've had Holmes on my mind all day.
A couple of questions. I will throw them out there.
1/ If there ere so many Holmes properties today - from the 70;s on?
Why so few in the Golden Age? There were movies, radio and no doubt the books were steady sellers, so why so few comic books?
We have about 5 in English on CB+ and I've looked around the net and that seems to be about all there is.
Today, tho, there are so many It's hard to know where to start.
Dynamite has done about 1/2 a dozen series, There are multiple European series.
Says three things to me.
1/ The fact that Holmes is in the public domain is a serious plus.
2/ There is clearly an audience for Holmes. You don't keep publishing, if no one is buying.
3/ Many creators (Artists and Writers) want to do Holmes stories.

My tips for a few good ones.
a) Renegade press - Cases of Sherlock Holmes - beautiful BnW work of the original stories by Dan Day.
b)Sherlock Holmes & Kolchack the Night Stalker - Moonstone did a few Sherlock Holmes, How could you resist this?
c) A terrific French set of 5 tomes of Baker Street. A semi-serious comedy take on Holmes, very clever and quite funny.
d) Les Quatre de Baker Street (The Baker Street Four)  - 5 volumes to date. A series about the Irregulars. Beautiful work but I don't think they are yet available in English.
In various comics I haven't mentioned, Holmes also meets Dracula, Dr Jeckel and Mr Hyde, Zombies, Jack the Ripper, Vampires and Time Travellers. As a detective he goes looking for a Missing Martian from War of the Worlds and the Necronomicon.
Just occurred to me, he's probably the one character who has had more adventures than Superman - or Batman. then again, he got a head start of about 50 years.   
He leads a full life.

Absolutely correct with the public domain argument Panther. The almost eternal delay these days before a character enters the public domain means a near-infinity of lost stories that may have been created.

Imagine if a character could be only copyrighted/trademarked for fifty years - we could by now have had hundreds of stories of James Bond, the Saint, Batman, what you will. Some would be rubbish of course but mostly people show respect for the characters they are using. On the whole, modern Sherlock stories are generally of good quality.
