What lesser-known comics have you found on GAC that deserve a wider audience and appreciation? I'm interested in your recommendations and reasons why.

My nomination is The Barker, a Quality book. Lovely Klaus Nordling art and stories...all set in a small traveling circus/sideshow. IIRC, Barker stories also ran in Quality's National comics. Nordling was probably most famous for his Lady Luck stories (also at Quality), but I don't think he has ever really gotten the props he deserves.

Well, shoot! I had just enough KB left in my Newbie allotment to download Hooded Horseman #24, but Cowboy Sahib wasn't in that issue! Oh well, once I'm reset, I'll give it another go. I sure do miss the days of unlimited downloads.

One of my favorite recent uploads here was Charlton Premiere #2, "Children of Doom," a haunting and trippy late-60's post-apocalypse with art that's part black and white and part color.  I've never seen anything else quite like it.

DC Comics recently revived THE BARKER for a short story arc as a back up in Detective Comics.

Sorry, Poztron, I should have specified issues 26-27 of volume 1 and 18-22 of volume 2.  He's on the cover of issue v1 #25, but not inside.
I guess I've been doing this too long.  I just assumed you would Check the Grand Comics Database with the character's name, which is what I do when i hear about something and I'm not sure where to find it...especially now that we haven't got those unlimited downloads!

No real need to apologize, sky.... My downloading #24 was more due to the fact that I had slightly over 12 megs left of allotted downloading and #24 was just under that. I do make use of GCD quite often, but this time I opted for what was obviously available at a certain size. Just my bad luck that it didn't include Cowboy Sahib!

My fave from Popular Comics is Smokey Stover. I love all the little gags Bill Holman fits into each strip. Kind of like Bill Elder in the Mad strips.

Contact Comics, specifically issue 5. Consistently interesting art by artists like L. B. Cole, Rudy Palais, Nina Albright, and George Appel.
