After the triumphs of Buffy and Firefly, Joss Whedon got himself trapped within the black hole of DC/Marvel superhero movie adaptations - but finally it looks like he's come up with something a bit different - The Nevers:

Looks good to me - I like the Victorian vibe. I've often felt it strange that there are so few superhero-type programmes set in history - what heroes would exist in Regency or Tudor England for example - or the Wild West, Napoleonic France, Medieval Italy or even in the Stone Age?

This is now available on HBO - first episode anyway. A virus has swept the world, leaving the female survivors with super powers.

I'm guessing we are going to get a lot of plots involving viruses over the next few years - coupled with sub-plots that favour identitarian political trends - (but when will a virus strike that leaves bald fat old Cornishmen with super powers - that's what I want to know ;>)

It may have happened back when the Venerable Bede was a pup.
