Well Simon, glad to see someone else aware of these characters and getting into comic history.
On this site, these are definitely interesting - and maybe significant characters, but no way are they characters that we have never heard of. Nice blog by the way.

Kismet, Man of Fate (First Muslim Superhero)
'Blessed are the Meek,for they shall inherit the earth' That's a direct quote from Christ on the Sermon on the mount, so I don't know if, just because he was from the middle east, that he was a Muslim. First Arab superhero, tho, I will accept.
The Comet (The First superhero to be killed off)
And also maybe one of the first to come back from the dead. The Comet and most of the MLJ superheroes have been revived at least 4 times - but have never taken off.

Bonus: The look of The Comet with his visor, combined with his power to shoot powerful disintegrating beams from his eyes, makes him almost a dead ringer for Cyclops, who didn?t debut until September 1963, over 23 years later.

Believe me, given Marvel's habit of 'borrowing' Names, powers, costumes and concepts from then defunct Golden Age characters, you can bet that that was no accident.

Thanks for the link Simon.  Like Panther, it's great to know others are intrigued/fascinated by obscure superheroes and MMM.
As a fan also, not only of American obscures, I can point out another cross dressing "hero".  This one is French appearing in a series called "Les Belles Aventures", around 1947.  Enigma is a "hero" in a suit, collar and tie and sporting a domino mask.  "He" is actually Germaine de Vetheuil, an attractive, young woman.
There is another French "hero" in the same vein.  Masque Rouge is an historical series from '84, featuring the adventures of the red hooded "swordsman" who is really a young lady of noble birth and an excellent swordswoman, who takes up the i/d of the hooded "hero" to right wrongs.  Apart from anything else, this is a great read.
