Captain America and Thor...

It would appear that concept art for both the upcoming Captain America movie and Thor have just been released. Two of Marvel's most iconic characters coming to the big screen next year. It looks like the Cap uniform is based on the Ultimate version have a look:

The more I see and hear of the Captain America movie, the less interested I become. Yes, Steve Rogers was a soldier and an everyman, but Captain America is more than. There's a reason why his costume is based on the flag and NOT a glorified soldier's uniform much less one that looks more like it's set in the today than in the 1940s. Captain America is meant to be a superhero, iconic and inspirational from the design and his handling for most of his history, at least until the last decade. There's none of that in the design. As a 1940's style superhero inspired by the likes of Captain America, that's not a bad design. But, it's about as much Captain America as the Greatest American Hero is Superman.

Marvel is releasing many additional images of the Thor film and just beginning to roll out images from the Cap film. I admit I am not thrilled with the Thor images, Cap remains to be fully hinted at, but I am confident that these will both be mildly entertaining films. Its Disney-Marvel after all...

I'm not sure what to make of the Captain America movie. I'll admit that the choice of Chris Evans didn't sit well with me, so I'm playing wait and see on that one. Despite the fact that Cap is probably one of my favorite superheroes of all-time. On the other hand, Thor has me enticed as a movie, because Kenneth Branagh is a great director, and in his hands the movie might actually work. Thor is a character that I would usually say couldn't translate well to film, but with Branagh directing it might work.

All of the recent Marvel movies have been of the 'Ultimates' universe.

The Rage of Thor #1 (one-shot) came out this week, and it has Odin looking like Anthony Hopkins. Not cool dude.  :-\ Ah well.

At least he didn't look like Tommy Lee Jones.
