Monty Wedd OAM (1921-2012) was a cartoonist, animator and author who left school early, trained as a commercial artist and, after military service in WWII, turned his hobby of cartooning into a new career. He worked for a range of publishers, and created Captain Justice as his signature character. Captain Justice appeared in his own comic from New Century 1950-54 (23 issues and 1 special), Calvert 1955-57 (21 issues), and Horwitz 1963 (5 issues), as well as in the anthology title Chucklers' Weekly 1958-59 and in Women's Weekly 1961-62. He also created the Scorpion and King Comet & the Space Rangers. He created a character callec Dollar Bill, who was the face of introducing decimal currency in Australia. And that's before his historical strips his animation work. Wedd was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1993 for his services as a historian, writer and illustrator.
