FREW Comics Australia
« on: July 06, 2025, 05:41:13 AM »

FREW comics have justr published Phantom issue #2000. They have reached that because they publish fortnightly and have done so since 1948.
But the reason I have posted this here is because;-
For some time in the late 40's ot early 50's Frew published a second comic featuring the Phantom,
SuperYank comics.
There were 19 issues which also feature other characters including Planetman and Catman.
Frew has now made these 19 issues avaiable in 2 volumes in the first of what they are calling their 'Legacy' series.
Dan is probably already aware of this, but there are a number of CB+ members who will have an interest in these books.
I don't intend to post a link but if you are interested,

Quote
Super Yank is a Frew Publications series released in November 1950 and was published every month, running from issue 1 to 19 (however, issue 7 was never printed or released). Each issue contained 24 pages, with 7 to 13 pages dedicated to the Phantom.

Catman debuted in the second issue of Super Yank Comics, written and drawn by the Australian cartoonist Lloyd Piper. The most noticeable difference about this new, Australian version of Catman was that the character's sidekick was changed to a young boy named Kit!
216 pages per volume

There were also some US reprinted materials in these volumes.
cheers!
