Purple Tigress?
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:37:27 PM »

Howdy! I posted a similar question over at DCM's forum, but I wanted to ask here as well.

I've been having fun tracking down stories of the more obscure "one shot" Golden Age superheroes, and one that's really caught my attention is The Purple Tigress. I've read her appearance in the 1944 All Good Comics anthology by Fox (both the .cbr download from this site, and also a smaller but cleaner scan posted elsewhere online.)

However, the Public Domain Superhero wiki and the GCD site list at least one additional appearance of the character, in the 1947 issue of "Jo-Jo Comics #7a" (apparently a different printing from the version of #7 available here.)

Does anyone know if this other Purple Tigress story is actually a "new" one, or if it's just a reprint of the one from All Good Comics?   ???

Thanks for any help!

GCD lists her previous appearance as in All Top and that this is her last appearance. It doesn't state it explicitly, but I'd infer this is not a reprint. I can't help with the comic though.

Thanks. I guess I'll have to just wait until the comic becomes available someday to find out more. (I'm curious about the character's second appearance... but not curious enough that I can afford to buy a $200 back issue of "Jo-Jo #7A" on ebay for a 10-page backup story.)

Reviving an old topic just to update that I was able to track down an affordable "reading copy" of Jo-Jo #7(A) at the Phoenix Comicon last weekend!  ;D

I'm enjoying reading the second (and final?) appearance of the Purple Tigress, as well as the title feature of Jo-Jo and the backup Bronze Man story. So now I just have to get around to scanning this new addition and figuring out the upload process here for the first time. Off to the FAQ section for me.

Got the book scanned and a .cbz file created. Unfortunately, I can't get the "upload file" option on the front page to work for me, so I guess it's back to the FAQ section to see what my other upload options are. Stay tuned.

Great. I hope others enjoy the issue as much as I did. I've uploaded it over at the DCM site too.

Thanks a lot for this scan Kevin. I was less interested in the Purple Tigress story than the first stories for Jo-Jo, Congo King.

Hmm, might have to get on the PDSH Wiki and edit Jo-Jo's entry a bit. It lists Gwenna as Jo-Jo's original mate, who is replaced with Tanee in the second issue. In that first story Gwenna is the vain ruler of a jungle kingdom that needs saving from evil white hunters, but no real romantic connection is implied.

Jo-Jo does have a mate in the second story, and she's called Geesa. For the most part Geesa and Tanee seem to be basically the same character. They not only look alike, but both are the daughter of the tribal chief who advises Jo-Jo.
