This book is now out of copyright? Just noticed that you are now hosting this title.

The copyright of the GA titles was not renewed, although the later #65 reprint was, the Harvey family kept ownership of Black Cat and Sad Sack, and if that Black Cat movie ever gets up and running they would get something from it, they also as far as l know still reprint some of the books which would keep the trademark active. But after hunting through the records l could find no renewals for the Golden Age Black Cats, l would have liked to have spoken to someone from the family before hosting them, but we would probably be waiting till next year at the rate l write letters. l can see no legal reason why we cannot host them, but as the only GA publisher family still trying to make a bit of money out of their titles l am a bit worried about how hosting the scans will affect them. If you know for sure they are still reprinting them let me know and l will place a link to the site in the Black Cat section when l do it, perhaps some of the American fans would be interested.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Black Cat comics hosted here but the Harvey family are still offering the reprints under the "Recollections" title for sale at their website.

Official website: http://blackcatcomics.com/BChome.htm

Comics For Sale: http://www.realcartoons.net/BlackCatForSale.htm

Just don't want you guys getting into trouble.

Does not make any difference to us if they are offering rerints, it is only the copyright on the original we need worry about, they can still ask for us to remove them and l would out of courtesy, but there is no legal reason we cannot host scans of the originals, we obviously cannot host scans of the reprints.

A question about the reprints they are offering. Are they reprints of the complete books with ads, text spots, etc.., or do they only include the stories?

Thanks,

Just the stories. Half are in colour, half are in b&w.

Loved the Black Cat scans. The only problem I have with them is that many of those fiche scans are not too clear and hurt my appreciation of the books. Pity too, they had some great artwork from Lee Elias and Joe Simon and Jack Kirby.

BTW; Are there any plans to scan any copies of Speed Comics which also featured the Black Cat?

There are some very nice Black Cat scans available, l am just having a bit of trouble getting the time to track down the best scans and upload them, they will appear eventually.
