Introduction and Aopeal
« on: July 05, 2012, 08:29:53 AM »

I was born in 1938.  My father was an Italian journalist; my mother was English.  My infancy was spent in Rome, and my first language was Italian.  My father was anti-fascist and anti-Nazi - not a good career background in Italy in the early years of WWII!  He met Hitler at a party for the press.  Hitler performed the Nazi salute, expecting my father to reciprocate with the complimentary "Heil Hitler

Hello roastpig and welcome to CB+  That's some story and I was moved when reading it.  Thank you.
I understand the attraction of super powers and the ability to fly, because, as a wee boy in Scotland (I was born in 1949)  I read Marvelman comics - he was a sort of British version of Captain Marvel who appeared after the Big Red Cheese's jacket fell from the shoogly hook. Marvelman could fly and his magic word was KIMOTA (get it)? I and many others wandered the streets shouting KIMOTA in the hope that we would turn into Marvelman.  Oddly enough, it never happened and I've always felt let down .
As for downloading, you'll have to log into the main site, where the comics are, as well.   Click the title you want and when it comes up, you'll find a download button on the right of the panel below the comic.  Click that and you're off and running. There is a time limit of 5 minutes between downloads.  Good luck.

Very interesting Roastpig!  Sounds like your childhood, though probably more terrifying than exciting at the time, was about as action packed as your much loved Captain Marvel comics -even if you couldn't fly.  Kudos for being the son of a man confident enough to disrespect that sadistic little Napoleon reject to his face.  Good luck downloading :D

Welcome RP!
Congrats, that is about the best introduction message I've ever read.  A very compelling read.  I'm curious to know what became of your father after you left?

As you grew older did your tastes in comics expand beyond Fawcett?

Enjoy all the goodies here, there's a lot for you to catch up on.
