I read the early Quality Comics reprints of the 2000AD stories and thought they were really good. I read a couple of the Judge xy or z books that came out at the time also.

I probably have had more exposure to and experience of JD than most folk on CB+ and started reading him with #2 of 2000AD.
For those first few years it was a thrilling ride with excellent stories and enough humour.  And the artwork, well, what can you say? Especially with the greatest JD artist in Mike McMahon plus Ezquerra, Bolland and Smith. I rushed into print in aka the fanzine and a couple of other place, with Mr. Eisner writng back following my ref. to one of his storiesand its influence on a JD special.   In fact a few of us involved in Scottish fandom became quite friendly with messrs. Wagner, Grant, McMahon and a certain Mr. O'Neill.  Drink was taken - often.
I still love those early and middle runs but nowadays I feel the same way about the big fascist as I do about Batman - I find it almost impossible to read.  I don't think some of you will appreciate just how big and important a development 2000 AD and particularly JD was in the U.K.  But I hardly ever read the comic book collections and still don't, preferring the tpb's.  It was seriously good back then.

I've been on Dredd since prog 2 also and I have to say he is one of a kind if you consider they have aged him in real-time since his first appearance in 1977 and we still get to read stories by original creative team John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra. The most fascinating thing I've found with Dredd has been the addition of an internal monologue in recent years where can read his thoughts on the toll his life has taken on him and his evolution as a character after having been a one note hardline character for many years.
