Tip Top No.264 May 6th 1939
« on: December 18, 2013, 01:23:46 PM »

I've just uploaded a copy of Tip Top No.264. This UK comic measures 15 inches by 10 3/4 inches, and  having only an A4 scanner I have had to scan it in sections although not ideal I hope it will be viewed if only for its curiosity value. There are no credits for either writers or artists which is frustrating.
The back page picture serial stars Ken Maynard who has the tag "King of Cowboy Film-Stars" a wild  exaggeration which many of the Film Cowboys including Roy Rogers would dispute. However this is an early UK comic appearance for Ken Maynard would later turned up in the Miller reprints of the 1950's Fawcett,s Ken Maynard Comics. When was his first comic appearance does anyone know any that predates the TIP TOP appearances.

Thank you, oldtimer. Should be available shortly.  Thanks to my ancient copy of the British comic book guide, I can tell all those fans on CB+, who are dying to know, that both Terry Wakefield and George Parlett provided some of the art.  Lambiek has an entry here:-

and on Wakefield here:-

Tip Top ran from 1934 - 1954. Starting out weekly, it went fortnightly from June1940 - Oct. 1952.
