I picked-up that issue of Savage Dragon along with the two issues that preceeded it about a week ago.  Yes, it's a nice cover and it was cool to see those characters drawn by Larsen, but I was hoping to see more of them on the inside of the book, and instead only found a few panels of big fight scenes, which is disappointing inside the context of why I purchased the book.  The storyline was interesting, don't get me wrong, I was just hoping that a little bit more would have been done with the Public Domain heroes.

Well DareDevil, Red Devil, whatever Devil will be a continuing character in Savage Dragon as he plays "Batman to SD's "Gordon".

I was a big fan of The Savage Dragon from Day One, starting with the mini-series and continuing through to a couple years ago.  Then Larsen got really sporadic with the publishing schedule.  Also, retailers in my area didn't seem to want to carry the book in any sort of decent quantity, so that when it did come-out, they never had a copy when I wanted to buy it, and I totally lost interest.  I only picked-up 139-141 because of the GA heroes' appearance (picking-up 139 & 140 so that I knew what was going-on in regards to the story) and because the store I went to actually had them.  I'm down to a very, very small group of titles that I'm actively collecting right now, and I really have no interest in getting back into TSD no matter who Larsen throws into the cast.  Besides, I'ld rather see him use characters he's already established, like Star, Dart or Mighty Man, than bring-in someone like Daredevil just because using Golden Age heroes seems to be fashionable at the moment.

I wonder how many of us do not buy many new books? I get JLA/JSA, Return of the Super Pimps (no it is not porn it is superhero), End League, Femforce and JVJ and I share in Echo being on of our few titles. I did get comics from the small publisher Big City but they ceased publication and Omega One was one of my favorite titles. I will be getting Miserable Dastards from Dial C the publisher of Super Pimps. Pimps is a jive talking Afro centric comic that is a pretty fun read. I have been communicating with the writer publisher and have a few letters printed since issue one. TPB collection of the first six issues will soon be out if anyone wants to check it out. I do like to support the little guys if I like what they have to offer.

I get JSA and that's about it regularly.  I buy the very occasional Archives.  Most recent was the Green Lama vol 2.  I also enjoy the strip reprint books like Mary Perkins On Stage.

Now I will probably have to get the Dondi books. I remember Dondi being one of the better written strips. My step mom kept her newspapers for paper drives. When I would go to my dad's I would pull out all the comic sections and read my head off. I met Irwin at Heroes Con last year. Really nice guy. He said he wrote most of the Dondi strip as well as drawing them.

I've been most impressed by FABLES, Jack of Fables and Y - The Last Man.
All read as TPB from the local library.  None are traditional comics.
Sadly my local library system considers the Archives and Masterworks books as reference books.

I pretty much gave up as what I'm calling fetishism invaded each of the titles I was reading.  What I mean is that I stopped reading Green Lantern when it became obvious that it was just reintroducing the trappings of the Silver Age without the heart, and the entire storyline is just a boring tribute to Alan Moore.  I stopped reading JSA when it became painfully obvious that it was now a love story to Kingdom Come, after having to wait ten years for DC to finally stop shoving it down my throat.

Basically, I got tired of DC treating me like a puppy.  "If we show him something that looks like something he likes, he'll get excited and give us our money."  Sorry, but what makes Supergirl isn't that she's Superman's cousin and wears a skirt.  Twenty years of drab, depressing stories don't go away because you pulled Barry Allen out of his well-deserved grave.  A Green Lantern story isn't good just because it stars someone who's supposed to be Hal Jordan.  My list goes on for quite a while, and surprisingly (to me) has very little to do with death, destruction, and crossover events.  It's the fact that nobody at DC knows the difference between a set piece and a plot point.  Or like they don't know the difference between telling a good story and including a "shout out" in the story.

(Oh, the exception was Blue Beetle.  It was really good for the first couple of years, but I just sort of...forgot to keep getting it, as I stopped reading everything else.  Oops.)
