What would you film?
« on: April 11, 2020, 04:53:47 PM »

Best news I've heard today is that the movie Dampyr, based on my favourite Italian comic book series, is about to be released - not only that but it's being touted as the start of the Bonelli Cinematic Universe - so hopefully, we may soon see Nathan Never, Legs Weaver, a newer better Dylan Dog and all the rest.

Dampyr stars Australian Wade Briggs as Dampyr, the half-man / half-vampire; Ayr's own Stuart Martin as his assistant Kurjak and the gorgeous Frida Gustavsson as Tesla. David Morrissey plays the villain so this is a must-see!

But it got me thinking, what non-Marvel, non-DC characters would you like to see turned into a movie? Maybe from the Golden Age or more recently? Maybe even a new cinematic universe?

Uh, my characters?  ;)

I have a webcomic, The KAMics, and I've thought about writing a movie script for my most popular characters, Gertrude & Brunhilda.

As for other people's characters...

Years ago there was a similar thread, either here or at the DCM forum, I had mentioned Amazing Man & thinking how the early adventures (pre-costume) could have made for an interesting movie serial of the time.

More recent probably some movies based on the CrossGen books. I guess the movie rights to a lot of these were sold, but no movies got made. I'd assume the rights are now in Disney's grubby little fists, but they've probably forgotten they own the CrossGen properties. Still how did a Way Of The Rat movie never get made? It's based on Hong Kong-style films. The majority of the film probably could have been filmed in Hong Kong, but noooooo...

Modesty Blaise. There exists a Modesty Blaise movie, but it's reputation is not high. Stars  Monica Vitti , not a bad choice and its very camp, faux-ironic and silly. An entertaining movie nut doesn't do justice to the source material.
Tarantino raves about Modesty Blaise, but never got around to making the movie. As you would imagine, a Tarantino Blaise would be a very different movie. You would think a spy movie with a strong female lead would be a natural in 2020. Maybe there are copyright issues.

A decent Saint movie. Been several attempts since Roger Moore, but they have never gotten in right.

Terrible, isn't it? By the numbers, turn your brain off crap.
To do it right, it would have to be period. set in the 30's

Cheers.

Oh, yeah - definitely Modesty Blaise - absolutely fantastic comic strip / novels. I quite liked the Monica Vitti movie, although it didn't really capture Modesty. There were two terrible TV movies in 1982 and 2004 but quite frankly, there's no point doing Modesty unless it's big-budget mega-style.

It also occurred to me that Axa would make a good movie and Garth - how come Garth has never appeared as more than a newspaper comic strip - he's an icon.

A Gertrude & Brunhilde movie could definitely work - what's not to like?

For anyone not familiar with Superscrounger's KAM or KAMics, I urge you to check it out. Here's one to start with:

A mega-buck movie about valkyries encountering mysteries in a multi-dimensional universe - how come that's never been made when instead we have to put up with yet another squid-brained man-in-tights trashing CGI scenery?

Thanks, Andrew. Didn't know anyone here was familiar with my comic.  :)
