Oral Roberts comics
« on: December 18, 2017, 03:10:14 AM »

I wrote this post before but it seems to have vanished before it appeared in the forum. So anyway, for those who are interested...

I was curious about the Oral Roberts True Stories comics. Google quickly led me to Christian Comics International, a site which both sells and documents Christian-themed comics from around the world. Their entry for OR True Stories says there were 19 issues in all between 1955 and 1959. The first ("The Miracle Touch") was numbered Vol. 1 No. 1, but the second issue was numbered 102 and the series numbering continued from there. Christian Comics International is here:

C. L. Ramsay (Charles Lowell Ramsay) had been illustrating for the Gospel Publishing House in Springfield, IL for some time when he joined the Roberts organization to oversee its comics. A capsule biography is on this page:

In 1959 True Stories was replaced by Junior Partners, also art directed by Ramsay. This title ran 29 issues and ceased publication in 1961.

iI am reminded of Jack Chick's "comics", none of which are pleasant reading. I HOPE that with Jack Chick's passing, saner hands will eventually effect control of his comics & tracts, and steer them towards less slanderous and hatemongering than they had under Chick.

I don't read "Christian" comics.
