A curvy pneumatic redhead in a skin-tight two-tone gold rubber costume being kidnapped by a steampunk psycho robot – yep, this is my comic of the day! Thanks to baldy51 for pointing it out.

Some very dodgy science in Do People Live on Mars? (green vegetation?) but these were early days in astronomy (Prediction – there is life of a sort on Mars – trapped in the warm waters beneath the ice-caps – watch this space (also, on Europa and Eurydice, I reckon) – we’ll see)

There isn’t a man, woman or child on Earth who doesn’t thrill to the exploits of that incredible crusader from another world, Jerry Siegel(?)’s Lars of Mars. How true that is – I’ve yet to meet anyone who has said, “I’m not thrilled by that guy, Lars of Mars – how about you?” In his origin story, we begin to understand the importance of crackety-wackety cereal to maintaining interplanetary order.

Great pencils from Murphy Anderson on all the stories! In Villain or Hero, the postmodern mayhem of pretending to be a man from Mars for a TV show begins to prey on our hero when he’s set up by some villains. Luckily, he’s been to super-hero training school and always keeps a mask handy.

Gene Colan’s Captain Brady and his sidekick, Buzzy, provide some airborne action as they battle a sky pirate over a new widget of a metal

But then it’s back to Lars who’s now ready to battle the Terror from the Skies! Laughable now to look back on these bizarre ‘red scare’ stories from the fifties with the Americans fearing any nation which has a free healthcare system, student grants, a national investment policy and subsidised housing – so glad we’ve all moved on from that….
