Print and Bind your own comics?
« on: October 16, 2009, 11:14:57 PM »

I have never used this at all, but stumbled across it on a wiki:

http://magcloud.com/

looks like you put together a "magazine", upload it, check it, and can get it printed out for a fee. Kind of like ... a comic?

I've seen several options for getting a comic book printed online:  ComiXpress, Endeavor Printing and Ka-Blam.  I haven't looked into all three extensively, but ComiXpress has it set-up where you pay a fee upfront, they list the comic on their site, then you pay for each copy as they're ordered/needed.

Sorta like Lulu.com for the on-demand book publishing.

Yeah, in fact, Lulu apparently handles comics, as well.   Weird that you mention Lulu as I was just looking at that site today.

I don't think I'ld insult someone using an online "on-demand" printer by telling them they weren't a "Real artist".  For somebody who only has $100 or so to risk on getting a comic published & doesn't want to go into debt, the online publishers are a good option if they just want to get their work out there.

on demand publishing when it's doesn't cost you anything to set it up is a good deal.

I noticed the comment regarding visiting your local newspaper and trying to get published there - sadly, in the smaller sized towns where I live, unless your willing to pay to place an ad highlighting your work the paper more than likely isn't interested in any submissions.  Although, I'd love to pay the 50 cents each day to see the artwork of thousands of aspiring artists who went in that direction to get noticed, might even save the Newspaper industry in the process.  (And start a new collectible...)

I was actually thinking less about multiple copies, more like a one-off print of something akin to DC's "Showcase Presents". Take a bunch of GAC comics, stick them together, and print and bind a copy for reading the old fashioned way. No idea what that would cost though.

There are binding services that will do it. The same ones that do magainze binding for libraries, etc. A good goofle search will help you.
