Explanation accepted Andrew, so no worries. A lot of early settlers in "Australia, New Zealand, Sourth Africa, Canada and the US, from, among others, Ireland, Wales and Scotland,  did so because they were in many ways driven out of their own country and they came looking fro a better life, so I'm not totally familiar with the Clearances.
Re Ireland, In 1976, fairly recently, I travelled to the UK with a group of people, one of which was Irish and had been in Australia for a decade. I asked him why he came to Australia. His reply?
For a male in Ireland, you basically have three choices, you join the Priesthood, the Garda or the IRA, If you want anything else you leave.

It's perhaps time to call a halt to this subject.  As we can see, we leave ourselves open to misunderstandings.  And we are here to read, study, discuss and research comics.  And to enjoy ourselves through the wonderful world of comics - and tv and movies and radio and books. That's why we are comicbookplus.
I'm not telling people to stop, simply stating what we are about.  Personally, I would like to see us all moving on.
