Buck Rogers
« on: January 29, 2021, 10:02:52 AM »

News echoes down the cognosphere that a new version of Buck Rogers is in preparation, produced by that amiable personage George Clooney. Let's hope it doesn't take five hundred years to take off and Twiki is killed on impact.

Hopefully, Princess Ardala will return.

After the failed attempt by the Dille Family Trust to maintain the Buck Rogers trademark, it's now generally agreed that the character is in th public domain - so feel free to write your own Buck Rogers stories you creatives out there - and expect a slew of publications to accompany any new series.

Meanwhile, all of Philip Nowlan's work is also in the public domain. You can download The Airlords of Han from Gutenberg here:

Kinda mind-blowing that something that had a (somewhat) successful TV series "only" 40 years ago ("ONLY!") should fall into Public Domain.  that's pretty pathetic on somebody's part.

I'm still watching the DVDs of the '79-'80 series (season one, anyway-- I've had as much of season two as I intend to take). Considering all the chaos behind-the-scenes (repeated rewrites before during and after the pilot was made, nearly re-casting one of the regulars, actually recasting one of the recurring characters; and then the huge stink that erupted because the lead actor was causing so much trouble and production delays the studio almost hit him with a lawsuit), it's amazing most of season one wound up as much fun to watch as it did.

As it happens, I like Twiki.  But only when Mel Blanc is doing his voice.
