Reading this story I was struck by the sheer effort Phil Mendoza put into the artwork. The complicated scenes beg for cheats and shortcuts, but Mendoza is having none of that. If the script calls for an Indian village, a herd of horses, and a hundred Indians, he puts 'em all in. Take our page 63. The volcano AND Shangala's crumbling temple AND the waterfall AND the lava flow AND the burning village AND a crowd of fleeing tribesmen. Imagine how Bill Fraccio would have drawn that!
