I'm a fan of Alden McWilliams (especially his later work). However he let me down this time. Our pages 10 through 14 are a master class in avoiding work. McWilliams reduces every action panel to the bare minimum: a close up of a foot or a pair of hands, overly tight shots with no background or context. For shame!

Al McWilliams? was probably better suited to drawing landscapes and vehicles more than people and action, going by his Destroyer 171 work from National Comics.

This was still early in McWilliams' career. As he moved into the 50s his skills improved rapidly. I feel Twin Earths was his first mature work. Like most Raymond-influenced artists he wasn't one for dynamic posing. Superheroes were definitely not his bag. However he was good not only at machinery, but also figures, clothing, backgrounds, and natural effects like water (he drew great oceans). In the early days of Warren he poured everything he had into a short story about a doctor who accuses a woman horticulturist of being a vampire. It was a beautiful job. In general, whether early or late in his career, if a script called for a a guy jumping onto the ladder of a moving fire truck, McWilliams would draw a guy jumping onto the ladder of a moving fire truck-- not a closeup of two hands clutching a ladder rung. That's why I find this job disappointing.
