Quick mention for the Rapid Arrows created by Jaroslav Fogler - if only for the fact they should not be forgotten.

Formed in 1938, the Famous Five of Bohemia engaged in the usual types of adventures and derring-do but significantly during dark days in central Europe, they kept alive hope. They have the distinction of having been banned by both the Nazis and the Communists - not many comic books can claim that.

More importantly Folgar formed his own 'scouting' movement that rivalled the Boy Scouts, Young Pioneers and other such official groups. At one point, there were 25,000 branches. The fictional leader of the Arrows Mirek Dusin was so popular that to call someone 'a bit of a Dusin' became the highest compliment you could bestow.

Does anyone from amongst our European fans out there remember them? The series ran from 1938-89.
