I love Military Comics!

One of the coolest things about the Blackhawks is their choice of the Gruman Skyrocket as their go to aircraft.
The Skyrocket looks like something a cartoonist might dream up but it was a real and very capable aircraft that had a great rate of climb ( over 4,000 feet per minute) and short landing and take off and landing capabilities. Designed as a carrier borne interceptor it had folding wings which would have made it easy to conceal and house in smaller hangers.
Proposed multiple cannon armament would have shredded the toughest axis aircraft in a single short burst.
Far as I know it was never adopted by allied air forces, can't really figure out why, but that made it ideal for a privately funded mercenary force.
For one thing an enemy would have no idea what they were up against till it was too late.

There's a story about government investigators visiting the artist and wondering where he got these plane designs, and as they are talking to him they hear a plane taking off, they turn and through the window they see the artist lives next the airport where they test these planes.
