Does anyone else think the writer of the Judy of the Jungle story intended for the young black boy, who saved Judy’s life on page 18 of 36, to be gay? Or am I reading too much into the fact that he likes to play with dolls?

No . The whole village showed childlike glee at seeing these walking dolls. The dolls were meant to blow their minds (in a good way)and succeeded.
