I'd like to announce a new Android application that I believe is a significant step forward for fans of international digital comics. The app is called Comiglot.
For years, the digital age has promised access to a global library of comics, but the language barrier has always been a major hurdle for many great works, especially from the Franco-Belgian and other European markets.
Comiglot aims to solve this. It's a full-featured digital comic reader (CBR, CBZ, PDF) with a unique, integrated AI translation engine.
The technology works by first preparing a high-quality, context-aware translation of the entire comic using Google's Gemini AI. This process analyzes the plot, characters, and nuances of the story. Once completed, the reader can enjoy the comic in its original language, with the ability to get an instant, accurate translation of any speech bubble with a single tap. All of this is available offline after the initial processing.
This tool effectively opens up vast back catalogs of international comics that have never received an official English translation, making them accessible to a much wider audience. I believe it's a new and powerful way to engage with the rich history of comics from around the world.
