I went searching for some issues of ACE COMICS and MAGIC COMICS to read and couldn't even find the publisher, DAVID MCKAY PUBLICATIONS.  McKay published both title for several years from the mid 1930a through about 1950 or 51  True, many strips were newspaper, but I'm sure not everything in the company's portfolio is still under copyright

Two simple words, Kings Features. Ace reprints King Features strips, so they are a no-no. Magic also reprints Kings Features.

How about Future Comics? Did that contain King Features strips too? It's listed at Grand Comics Database and at first glance, I don't recognize many of the characters listed in that issue (except the Lone Ranger and the Phantom).
