Introduction from new user
« on: December 14, 2011, 10:54:25 PM »

Hello! I'm interested in reading more Golden Age comics, and thought this board would be a great resource.

I own a comic shop in Oklahoma (though we sadly rarely see Golden Age come through) and I blog about comics for the OKC newspaper.

I'm trying to read 2,011 comics in 2011 and blog about it: http://blog.newsok.com/nerdage/tag/2011-in-2011/

I have around 100 to go in the last month of the year.

Anyone have any recommendations on great Golden Age comics to read?  I've read some from Timely and DC that have been reprinted, but there's quite a bit that I haven't been exposed to.

What sort of genre(s) are you interested in checking out Matt?

I'm most interested in superhero stuff, but also crime, adventure and humor... basically open to suggestion, though!

If you want to check out some of the more well known super-heroes check out those under Fawcett and Quality.    Better and Lev Gleason also had some characters that were popular in the Golden Age.  If you want something more obscure look at some of the Centaur or Fox heroes or some of those from the Small Press publishers.

For Crime try Crime Does Not Pay and Crime and Punishment [/b] (Lev Gleason), Murder Incorporated (Fox), Crime Must Pay the Penalty (Ace), Justice Traps the Guilty (Prize), and Crime and Justice (Charlton).

For Adventure try Danger (Comic Media), Soldiers of Fortune and Operation Peril (American Comics Group), Buccaneers (Quality), Buster Crabbe (Eastern) Ranger Comics and Wings Comics (Fiction House)and Amazing Adventures (Ziff-Davis).

For Humor check out Jingle Jangle Comics (Eastern), Animal Comics (Dell), Cookie and Dizzy Dames (American Comics Group), and Peter Wheat (Small Press).

That should give you something to start with.  Plenty more beyond those titles to!

Enjoy
