I just saw this movie and I have to say, it was very impressive and a must-see for anyone who loves the early Silver Age of D.C. It also has the most awesome movie villain ever. Period.

I haven't read the miniseries it was based on, D.C. New Frontiers, because I don't really care much for D.C. characters in the modern era, not realizing that New Frontiers was not set in the modern era, but in the early 1960s with characters as they were in that era, some of them even making the transition from golden to silver age!

Wonder Woman has an invisible airplane. Batman decides he needs a new, friendlier image, lightens up his costume and takes on a young ward. The Martian Manhunter comes to earth, decides on his secret identity and eventually settles on the big green guy form. Iris only learns that Barry Allen is the Flash at the end of the movie and, most importantly, Hal Jordan is given the ring by Abin Sur, becoming the Green Lantern for the first time.

The look of the film is brilliant and HEAVILY influenced by Jack Kirby. There were Kirby-like shots all over the place. As a huge Kirby fan, I loved it.

There's also great references to the era. For example, Superman and Wonder Woman signed loyalty oaths to the U.S. Government and begin the movie fighting for the French in Indochina and at the end, a JFK speech is somewhat modified to make it sound like he was talking about superheroes while you see him giving the Flash a Congressional medal of honor.

There are tons of cameos of Silver Age favorites (many sadly in non-speaking roles): Green Arrow, Robin, Captain Cold, King Faraday, Colonel Flag, Slam Bradley, Carol Ferris, Gorilla Grodd, Dr. Magnus, Ray Palmer (but not as The Atom) and many others, especially in a montage at the end.

Aquaman is dealt with very well and doesn't just seem like an embarrassing hanger-on.

The one big break in D.C. continuity resulted in, what I claim, is the most awesome bad guy ever in a movie. Dinosaur Island is actually a living creature called The Centre which evolved long before the rest of life on Earth and hates all life on it, wanting to destroy it. At the end of the movie, it rises up and becomes- A GIANT INTELLIGENT FLOATING ISLAND THAT SHOOTS ENERGY BEAMS AND GIVES BIRTH TO LEGIONS OF VICIOUS FLYING DINOSAURS! What's more, it TOTALLY kicks Superman's ass!

Is that not totally awesome? I ask you.

Anyway, this movie is a must-see.

Oh! And how could I forget? Ace Morgan of the Challengers of the Unknown and the Blackhawk Squadron also make an appearance!

I've seen it a few months ago. Awesome movie! Awesome comics! Problem is, they could have made it longer, because there's so many things they didn't adapt that were brilliant and would have made the film even better.
