Magazine Enterprises!
« on: November 14, 2006, 06:11:10 AM »

I'm thrilled to see an ME section added!  ME is my favorite short-lived 50s group.  STRAIGHT ARROW, STRONG MAN and JET POWER! I think CAVE GIRL was ME too, right? I'll see if I can find some scans of these great books to contribute.  THANKS!! ;D  ~Kevin

I'm so glad this site has a "search" thingie. Now I don't have to start a new thread.

I've been getting more and more into ME, originally thanks to GHOST RIDER. (the "real" one!)

I've been looking over A-1, their anthology.  I notice that-- presumably to avoid duplication-- series which spun off on their own, or had enough issues to get separate listings, are not included in the "A-1" section.  Good idea.

I'm a bit frustrated that so many of these have NO dates listed (other than year).  Here's my question... HOW can so many of them (especially near the end) be listed as "quarterly", whe, for example, just among the ones I've found, there's OVER a dozen issues in 1954?  Several of them I have found dates for have the SAME date.  What did the thing do-- come out 4 times A MONTH?

Mostly I'm trying to figure out the "continuity" of some series, like TIM HOLT, GHOST RIDER, or even where the BLACK PHANTOM one-shot fits into it.

I am so loving all the cool art by Dick Ayers, Frank Bolle, Bob Powell I've seen in these comics.  All of it totally blows anyway anthing they did for Marvel later on!  (Although, a few of those 60's GR covers weren't bad.)

I've been checking a lot of those, to update my personal indexes.  Unfortunately, several BEST OF THE WEST or A-1 issues have no months listed at all.

When I was doing Nick Simon's site, I'd expanded the GHOST RIDER section to include all the ME appearances, which to me, mattered more than the Marvel revival.  On a single set of thumbnail pages, I set up EVERY appearance in chronological sequence, so you could see it all at a a glance.  (It still annoys me the site went down 2 years ago, and Nick has expressed no interest in finding a new server.)

YEAH.

It's fortunate I was saving ALL the HTML files I was working on.  It means if and when I'm ready and able to put the thing back up, I have the latest files and can start where I left off.

One of these days...

I have a question...  does anyone out there have a copy of JET #4 ?  The version posted at the CB Plus site does not have the indicia.

A-1 #38 is posted, MUGGSY MOUSE.  The indicia (and the notes at the site) both say A-1 #38.  Howeever, at the GCD, it's listed as A-1 #39.

JET #4 is listed as A-1 #38-- both here and at the GCD.

I have a suspicion that if we saw the indicia for JET #4, it would say A-1 #39.

Of course, the funny thing is, all 4 issues of JET come 1 issue after an issue of GHOST RIDER, so it would seem JET #4 should be A-1 #38, not #39.
